Let’s be honest, traveling kids requires a lot of extra stuff. We pride ourselves on traveling light and we try to take the bare minimum wherever we go.
Let’s be honest, traveling kids requires a lot of extra stuff. We pride ourselves on traveling light and we try to take the bare minimum wherever we go. We made this list to share what are the absolute necessities that end up in our bag for every trip!
- Travel stroller- we have the GB pockit all terrain. We like this stroller because of how light weight it is as well as how small it can fold up. GB has several different models but we chose the all terrain because it has double wheels in the front that can lock so if you are navigating the cobblestone streets of Europe you won’t have any problems.
- Wipes- this one may seem simple, but it is an absolute must. We wipe down everything, trays and arm rests on the airplane, tables and high chairs at restaurants, their hands, their toys and just about anything that will go in their mouth. All this wiping calls for different kinds of wipes. Antibacterial, baking soda and face wipes. Little ones are either touching everything or putting everything in their mouth, so we want to keep them as healthy as possible.
- Distraction bag- I’m not talking a bag with a tablet in it, I’m talking a full on backpack with different things that hold their attention for several minutes each. We walk through our entire distraction bag on YouTube.
- Change of clothes-if I’ve learned anything, it's that everyone needs a change of clothes and if they’re under one, they need 2 extra outfits. We were flying home from a trip once and I, Katie, had both boys while Chris went to the bathroom. The airport was rather empty, so we were waiting near the entrance to security. I was wearing our youngest (12 weeks) and our oldest (2) was sitting down. The Littlest one started coughing and then spit up what felt like a half gallon of liquid covering himself as well as the carrier and of course me. I had packed an extra outfit for him, so I cleaned him up and changed him and did my best to clean myself up. We make it through security and find our gate and just as we go to sit down, blow out. I headed to the restroom and of course this was an above average blowout. I am out of clothes and it’s 4:30am in an airport that only has two gates. The likelihood of buying an overpriced onesie is slim to none. So I did laundry in the sink and luckily they had a hand dryer and not paper towels, so for the next 30 or so minutes I washed and tried to dry both outfits. Please learn from my mishap, pack 2 extra outfits for kiddos under 1.
- Snacks- There is nothing worse than a hungry kid in an area you don’t know or a country you don’t speak the language. We always have a bag of snacks packed, even if we are headed out to eat, we pack snacks. You never know what the situation is going to be and the one thing that always helps is snacks.
Hope this list helps you prepare for your next trip with your little one(s). We have packing lists as well as tips and tricks for traveling with kids over on YouTube, check it out!
